Oslo Legal Tech Meetup # 17: Do we need a legal sandbox?
23 November 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm CET
Do we need legal sandboxes to ensure innovation in the legal industry?
We have brought with us participants from the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, NAV, Advokatforeningen, and legal tech to explore the topic – and hope to see you at Mesh Youngstorget Wednesday, November 23rd!
How do we ensure framework conditions make it possible to try creative and innovative solutions in a “safe framework”? In Norway, the Norwegian Data Protection Authority has collected experiences with the AI sandbox, and in the USA, a LegalTech sandbox has been established. Can we repeat this in Norway?
We invite you to a broad conversation about the topic and have brought four interesting perspectives to the conversation:
Kari Laumann is the program manager for the Norwegian Data Protection Authority’s regulatory sandbox for artificial intelligence and privacy and believes that the sandbox gives us a unique opportunity to dig into unplowed ground for how to achieve good privacy in artificially intelligent solutions.
Daniel Engehagen is Chief Information Architect at NAV and is particularly concerned with how digitization can strengthen legal certainty. He is engaged in the sandbox theme and wants to explore how it can be a means to understand better fundamental legal challenges in the digital welfare state and how these can be solved.
Merete Smith is secretary general of the Swedish Bar Association and has been very positive about the sandbox established by the Norwegian Data Protection Authority. She thinks a legal sandbox for the legal profession is exciting to look into.
Merete Nygaard is the founder and general manager of Lexolve and, together with the lawyers she works with, has advocated that Norway should facilitate a legal sandbox, including in an article in Dagens Næringsliv this summer.
